Since Ground Illusionz inception over 15 years ago, they have been profoundly exceptional in developing their craft as professional artists, committed practitioners, successful educators and true students. Gi has inherited Canadian credibility as a solid team of Professional well rounded artist collective with versatile, post-modern aesthetics, while maintaining respect for traditional sensibilities and innovative applications. Keeping a positive and fun collective character as young performers, Gi is particularly critical and determined in unifying both their own aesthetic competence and perspective originality to make an underground, commercial & historical impact through an internationally renowned Canadian dance legacy. “Gi” attributes their influence under tutelage of Canadian originators: “Bag of Trix,” Boogie Brats”, ” Supernaturalz”, “Canadian Floor Masters” and American pioneers such as “Rocksteady Crew”, “Electric Boogaloos” & “The Mighty Zulu Kings”; all organizations are recognized as international staples to the canon of Hip-Hop culture established in past 4 decades. Mississauga’s own Ground illusionz is the only HipHop Crew present within Canada holding this caliber of training and experience currently active performing, competing & instructing.

Since their establishment in the Spring of 1999, the Ground Illusionz crew has performed for Grand openings, fundraisers, private & corporate parties, concerts, car shows, workshops, art festivals, showcases and public demonstrations. Some highlights including performances with world renown recording artists: “Melle Mel & the Furious Five”, “Maestro Fresh Wes”, “Talib Kweli”, & many World famous Dj’s on Much Music’s “Electric Circus”. Gi has advocated and supported performances for other well-known Canadian recording artist’s such as “Masia One”, “Choclair”, “Kardinal Offishall”, “Slakah The Beatchild” and the legendary late “Oscar Peterson” with pride and integrity. Members of Ground illusionz have danced professionally on majour film productions such as: “Honey” & “Take the Lead” and are featured in Music videos for artists such as “Masia One”, ”The Monument works”, “JSN”, “Anastasia” & “Slakah The Beatchild”.

Ground illusionz talent and experience has also been featured on every major national Canadian Television station including: MUCH, City TV, SPACE, MTV Canada, Global, CBC, CTV, TVO, Rogers, Onmi TV, The comedy network, BPM, seasonal work with CTS and an exclusive performance for international television on Fairchild Chinese TV. Their well received work has been showcased in print articles for “Inside Mississauga”, “Active Mississauga”, “Sweat”, “Goodlife”, “Condo living” & “Pound” magazines have listed Ground Illusionz as one of the most current influences to local Street dance culture. Local recognition of Ground illusionz remarkable performance talent and has led them to become the first B-Boy/Hip-Hop group to receive 5 finalist awards at the “Mississauga Arts Awards” during the 2003, 2009 – 2012

Not only have Ground illusionz attained commercial status in the past 12 years but also a fresh reputation and street credibility across Canada and internationally in countries like U.S, Korea & Japan. Domination of underground or commercial competitions locally with over 30 tournament victories in Ontario and contending internationally, Gi hold championship titles in all categories.

Gaining strong local then national success to become known as one of Canada finest entertainment & competitive practitioners, they have full involvement in community art development projects like: “The Word Project”, “UNITY Charity”, “The International Children’s Festival”, “ManifesTO”, “Live-style-Calgary”, “Blue Print For Life”, “Behaviour Urban Arts Festival” and the development of “EY-TECH” & “R.H.Y.T.H.M.” Mississauga’s first ever Hip-Hop education curriculums implemented through partnership with the municipality.

After a two-year hiatus in 2004, Gi reformed with a new generation, manifested from community development projects and support from other local crews. Today, one of Mississauga’s most legendary crew returns with new members across the GTA and international membership across the world in Taiwan, Japan & Korea; all sharing the same mandate and representing originality and the transcendence of foundation. As community developers and public health advocates, Gi is honored to be collaborating with revolutionary social work through Hip-Hop initiatives such as “Blue Print For life”, which brings Hip-Hop culture to remote Indigenous communities across the northern territories & “U.N.I.T.Y. Charity”, which promotes healthy lifestyles and choices through cultivation of the Arts.
