Great start for Urban Art Session 2016 in Linz

It was a great start for the recently founded association "Urban Artists" from Linz which organised the 1st Urban Art Session at the OK Mediendeck in Linz (Austria) on Sunday 3rd April 2016. More than 150 active dancers, dance enthusiasts and Hip Hop fans followed the invitation and set out to the centre of Linz.

At first some interesting workshops were on schedule. Graffiti workshop with Carlos Lorente aka Kid Crow and the Style Scouts Crew, Beatboxing with "Vienna's one and only" Michael Krappel aka Fii, DJing with Marco Schaffler aka DJ Elwood and of course one Bboying Workshop with the Red Bull BC One Allstar Menno van Gorp from the Hustle Kidz (Netherlands). It was an incredibly good atmosphere in every workshop. Participants had a lot of fun, worked intensively and were very motivated to obtain tips and tricks from the experts.

Then it went immediately to the point! Diligently and with good mood people had danced in cyphers until the preselection for both categories finally started. The international jury consisted of Bboy Menno (Netherlands), Lil Zoo (Morocco) and Patrick Gutensohn aka Guti from the Prodigyy Crew from Dornbirn (Austria). Musik was played by DJ Elwood from Graz (Austria) and the moderation was handed over to Michael Siller aka Mike Tike from Rookies at Work from Salzburg (Austria).

1vs1 Bboying Battle
With a total of 41 participants the preselection for the classical 1vs1 Bboying Battle was well filled. In 4 corner style they danced for the TOP16. 13 Austrians, 2 Germans and 1 participant from Poland made it to the desired round from where they danced in the KO-system until the final. There Rock'n'Rolli and Hakuna Matata from Innsbruck (Austria) as well as Harlekin from The Only Kingz from Linz (Austria) staged a tough but still a peaceful exchange of skills. Harlekin, however, wasn't able to use the home advantage and lost against the battle winner Rock'n'Rolli after two rounds and with a unanimous decision of the jury (3:0).

1vs1 Experimental Battle
The preseceltion for the 1vs1 Experimental Battle started with 20 dancers from which the best 8 were chosen for the finals. Experimental is the new trend in the battle scene - inspired and introduced by Juste Debout Paris (France). Above all that are young dancers who try themselves more and more in this field of dance searching for answers and challenges through creative movement development and interpretation. Here in the semi-final there was probably the most entertaning and interesting battle of the day between Mogli from Klagenfurt and Cat from Vienna. The final was staged by Joe Joe from Wels and Cat who persuaded more and won closely with 2:1.

Birthday boy of the day
That day was also the birthday of Paul Schmidtberger aka Bboy Intus from The Only Kingz from Wels who didn't celebrate with coffee and cake but spent this day together with like-minded people at the Urban Art Session at Mediendeck. Intus received a big applause and was serenaded by the audience. The organisation team gave him a Sacher cake and handpainted graffiti in a picture frame to say thank you for his support and his motivation for the scene.

Red Bull BC One Austria Cypher Wildcard
People were screaming like crazy when Red Bull BC One Allstar Menno van Gorp stepped across the dance floor with the Red Bull BC One Austria Cypher Wildcard pendant in his hands and haded it over to Bboy Mogli. Valentin Pezzei aka Mogli is now officially invited to the final rounds of the TOP16 of the BC One Austria Cypher 2016 in Vienna (Austria). For more on this topic see here.
