High level, enormous quality of movement and many interesting characters! The 1vs1 Kids Battle at this year‘s IBE in Heerlen was anything but a Kids Battle. It was incredible to see what 7 year old ones delivered on stage and which skills have become the norm.

It‘s Saturday, 6 August 2016, the sun is shining and most of the kids you would probably meet on the street, play- or sports grounds. Here in Heerlen it‘s different this day. 57 participants from 5 to 15 years coming from 10 different countries want to qualify for the TOP16 at the IBE 1vs1 Breaking Kids Battle and show breath catching dance acrobatics which one might think are surely impossible at this age.

At first the preselection runs on the 4 corner principle, i.e. in four corners there is one participant and every one of them presents himself from the best possible side. The judges Kacyo (Italy), Skychief (Netherlands) and Cheerito (Russia) work hard to choose the best 16 from these many talents and highly motivated kids.

Then time has come and the round of the TOP16 can start. The opening is a powerfull battle between Mafia Meezy (UK) and Martin (France). After them Cis from the Fresh Allstars from Antwerp (Netherlands) and the later winner Fresh (Russia) stage a thrilling dance fight and enter the first tie break. By far the best flava was shown by Lil Pearl (France) who with her groove and feeling for the music combined with strong techniques charmed the whole audience. One the of Netherlands‘ favourites was the "One and only" Lorenzo, who really had to hustle in his first battle against Speed-R (France) and only after the tie break he could decide the battle for himself.

The fact that France has good young talents was proven by Malik in the 5th battle of the TOP16 who danced against Mathieu (Netherlands). From the German side it was Dr. Jam from Ravensburg (Germany) from Exnatic Flava who managed to enter the TOP16 round but had later to admit defeat to the later finalist Magflex (Belgium) with 0:3. Two further Frenchmen, Ange and Marlone, delivered a neck-to-neck race to get the entrance to the TOP8, which in the end was closely won by Marlone. For a couple of years you can see Vicky (Netherlands) again and again at the IBE Kids Battle and also in 2016 she tried to assert herself in the first round but couldn‘t prevail against the souvereign and strong B-Boy ZoZo (France).

After that further energetic runs and strong performances followed in the round of the TOP8 and in the semi final. Magflex (Belgium) and Fresh (Russia) reach the final. After two runs the winner of the 1vs1 Breaking Kids Battle of the IBE 2016 was decided and with 2:1 Bboy Fresh was announced as the champion.
