Amy Secada Lopes

Amy Secada is one of New York City’s most eclectic and respected female dancers from the underground club scene. Secada grew up in the Bass and House clubs of the late 90’s while studying Capoeira and African street dances extensively. She has pioneered the dance style of Bass culture and AfroHouse dance in NYC and is the founder of MAWU, the notorious female house crew of NYC. Secada recently had the honor of choreographing for AMERICANS BEST DANCE CREW and was honored by NIKE WOMEN with a series of solo dance commercials and an international Nike campaign, which spread her unique dance style world wide and lead to performance opportunities with Madonna and Fergie. Secada has lived in Africa and Brazil for many years studying African dance and Capoeira while sharing her NYC club dances and culture. She is artistic director and choreographer of Kinetic Junglist Movement, an urban dance theatre company since 2004 and is also the curator of the legendary Urban Roots Project arts festival, held in NYC since 2006. Her work has been presented in over 20 countries and she continues to dedicate her life and art to keeping the modern ritual of club culture alive, transcendent and evolving.
